Business LicenseBusiness licenses are issued at Greensboro City Hall. All operating businesses are required to hold a current license from the city of Greensboro. Licenses must be renewed on an annual basis.

Applications for Utility Services
The City of Greensboro provides water and natural gas service for the city. In order to begin service, complete the appropriate application and submit it to the utility staff at Greensboro City Hall, 212 North Main Street. |

Sign Permit
Downtown businesses are required to obtain a sign permit before installing new building, window or accessory signage. Sandwich Board and temporary signs or banners also require a permit. Businesses located within the Greensboro Historic District may download the Historic District Sign Application and submit it to city planner, Rick Zeier for review and approval. There is a $25 application fee for all sign permits. For addtional information review the basic guidelines on historic district signage.

Certificate of AppropriatenessAny exterior change to a building within the city's Historic District requires a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) from the Greensboro Historic Preservation Commission. Exterior changes include the installation of new awnings, exterior painting, or any exterior facade changes. It is advised that anyone obtaining a COA also check with the city planning office to determine if a building permit is needed as well.
